Silk Sheets - fabric change
This information is of particular importance to returning customers.
Please note that we have changed the fabric that we use for the silk sheets, although we are now experiencing supply problems with that fabric - please see the separate note below.
The fabric we have selected is what is known as a 'fuji' fabric, which is a style of fabric woven with spun silk yarn in a plain weave (the same way as usual bedding) rather than in a satin weave which gives a more 'slippy' feel. The fact that the yarn is spun, as opposed to filament, gives the fabric a more cotton-like texture, although of course it is wonderfully soft, and the softness is enhanced by sandwashing which gives it a 'peachskin' type finish. This is a 23 momie weight fabric, which is a heavier weight even than most silk satin fabrics, and woven with 2-fold yarns giving it added strength and durability.
Sheets in sandwashed habotai (and also in satin) will continue to be available by special order. Please contact us with your requirements.
We are continuing to use the habotai fabric for pillow cases and on the underside of the duvet covers, and have no plans to change the use of that fabric in those items.

Silk sheets - availability
The price of raw silk has increased dramatically in the past 16 months - more than 70% increase from January 2009 to the beginning of May 2010.
As a result of this the factory that we use for the supply of our silk bedding has been more selective about the fabrics that they weave as they do not want to carry high stocks of fabric at high prices, and this has particularly affected the fuji fabric that we use in our silk sheets.
We have now arrived at a situation where all the fabric stock at the factory has been used, and the factory is unable to give even an estimate of a date when further fabric will be produced.
This leaves us in a position with regard the future supply of sheets that we in turn are unable to advise a possible date of delivery of items that become out of stock. At the present time we are pursuing a number of different possibilities which we hope will allow us to continue to supply sheets in the fuji fabric, as this is very much our preferred choice as a fabric for bed sheets. However this cannot be guaranteed, and in any event we are unlikely to receive new stock of sheets for several months.
Our stock is already limited, and please keep in mind that our website is not database linked and does not keep a running record of available items, therefore even though an item is shown as available orders may have already been placed that have used all available stock. We shall of course keep the information as up to date as possible.
The factory that supplies our bedding supplies fabric and goods to a very high standard, and we have no intention to compromise our reputation by seeking supplies from elsewhere, but we do request that customers are patient while this situation persists, and of course apologise for any inconvenience caused by the delay.
If orders are placed for out of stock lines we undertake to supply those orders at the prices confirmed at the time of placing the order, and in keeping with our usual payment policy customer's payment cards are not debited until the day of dispatch, whenever that may be.....
Supplies of fabric for duvet covers and pillow cases are not affected by this problem, and any out of stock lines in those ranges will be replaced as soon as possible.
